PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP AWARD 2010/2011

Local Employees Receive Rotary Vocational Award

The Rotary Club of Kenwick has recognised three local employees with Rotary Pride of Workmanship Awards.

The awards allow Rotary to be involved with the local business community and provide employers with the opportunity to nominate employees who are an example to others in the way they take pride in their work and consistently perform to a level that is exemplary; and publicly recognise them for their efforts.

"Rotary has many avenues of service to the community, but the highlight of our Vocational Service is the prestigious annual Pride of Workmanship Awards" said Sam Youssef, Club President.  "They help employers recognise those employees who "go the extra mile" and encourage a sense of pride in all vocations."

Local employers are encouraged to nominate employees for the award and a committee then selects the awardees that best demonstrate the qualities worthy of an award in their everyday working life.

The annual awards evening was held on Wednesday 24 November where awardees, their families and employers enjoyed dinner with the Kenwick Rotary Club and were acknowledged and presented with an individually engraved trophy.

This year the awardees were Kath Hill, Emma Guest and Dianne Oates.

"One of the nice things about these awards is that we can recognise people in all different vocations and in all walks of life" said Bob Phipps the club's Vocational Service Director who heads the committee responsible for organizing the awards.  "It's not what level of job they are doing - it's how they do it".  "Once again we have three very worthy winners and we thank their employers for allowing us to acknowledge their efforts".

Kath Hill works for Maddington Self Storage and was employed to run it when it opened two and a half years ago. Her citation in part reads "Kath runs the business in an extremely efficient and unassuming manner and does that 'bit extra' for somebody every day.  She is an integral part of the team and is the best ambassador and employee any business could have".

Emma Guest works for Guest Distributors a wholesale business in Canning Vale.  Part of her citation states "Emma's role initially was as a receptionist but through her willingness to work, ability and positive attitude she has increased her responsibility and is now almost single handedly responsible for ordering and sales of three ranges of products.  She is constantly being complemented by customers and work colleagues and is a model employee".

Dianne Oates works for Burk Addison & Associates a tax accounting firm covering many clients in the Gosnells area.  Her citation notes " Dianne has been the main driving force behind establishing this fledgling business and recently took on assisting another accounting firm due to illness of the proprietor.  She has excellent people skills and works very well with clients and other staff members.  She is an asset to her business".

The Rotary Club of Kenwick meets every Wednesday night at the High Road Hotel, Riverton and welcomes new members who want to put something back into the community to come along, enjoy themselves and assist it in its community work.  Enquiries ring Brian on 9455 4972 .

This is an invitation from Kenwick Rotary Club for you to participate in the annual "Pride of Workmanship" Awards that the Club is currently sponsoring as part of its Service to Vocations. We believe "Pride of Workmanship" - the sense of responsibility to do a job well (Do it Once - Do it Well) is one of the greatest intangible assets in our community. For this reason, each year during Rotary's Vocational Service month the Rotary Club of Kenwick sponsors "Pride of Workmanship" awards within the local business and professional community. Whilst the award has no monetary value, they are held in high regard in the community, acknowledging employees who show a pride in their workmanship.

The awards are part of our campaign to encourage professionalism and excellence in all vocations at all levels and, through employers, give special recognition to employees where it is considered due.

We would like to give you the opportunity to nominate one of your employees who, in your opinion, displays those qualities worthy of such an award. Successful nominees will receive their awards at a Presentation Dinner to be held by the Kenwick Rotary Club in early November 2010 at the High Road Hotel Riverton to which employers of successful nominees are also invited.

If you would like to help us encourage "Pride of Workmanship" in our community and nominate one of your employees, please complete the nomination form (see reverse) and return to the above address by 6 October 2010. If you would like any further information or details

Yours faithfully

Bob Phipps
