Local Seniors honoured by Kenwick Rotary For over 20 years, in conjunction with the City of Gosnells, Kenwick Rotary Club has been putting on a thank you afternoon tea with entertainment for about 120 local seniors who are also volunteers in their community. Some are in their 90s and still volunteering. The 2010 event will be held this Friday afternoon. The Kenwick Rotary Club members and partners organise the afternoon, setting up the Tea Party and providing the food and entertainment as a thank you to these seniors on behalf of the wider community and as an acknowledgment of the important place seniors hold in our community. The City assists by sending out invitations and organizing buses, etc, to shuttle many of the seniors to the event. The Mayor of Gosnells Cr Olwen Searle JP will be in attendance to open the event, as will be a number of councillors who wish to acknowledge the contribution to the City of these seniors. Local school children from East Kenwick Primary School will assist with serving the seniors their food and drink, which serves to emphasise the benefits to both sides of linking the youth and the seniors in our community. The highlight every year is the Senior Citizen of the Year Award which is made to one male and one female senior in the district for outstanding service to their community. This is a great award recognising people who are still contributing to their community even in their later life. |

She taught handcraft (sewing) to girls there. She taught them to knit. She coached netball and actually coached cricket coz she knew more about it than the teachers. In 1963, the Infant Health Centre, was built and every time she goes past, she thinks, every brick in that wall was made By a cake because they fund raised with cake stalls, you name it, Pat and Laurie were amongst the people who established and watered the Thornlie Cricket and Football Ovals so they Were actually foundation members of everything that happened in Thornlie
