The 4 Way Test...of what we think, say or do

That's what rotary about

I am humbled and honoured to have been elected the president of the Rotary Club of Kenwick for 2010 - 2011. a club with a very high reputation for 27 years working very close with the community.

A special thank you my fellow Rotarians   without you I would not be here today to represent our amazing club.

We would to like thank past President Bob Phips on his year which was a good year with the Global financial crisis a great job BOB well done

RI President- Ray Klinginsmith announced the 2010-11 RI theme,

Building Communities -- Bridging Continents,

The president- described how his 50 years of Rotary experience have contributed to his focus on communities at home and abroad. For example, as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar, he studied for a year in South Africa, becoming the first student from his small town of Unionville, Missouri, USA, to study abroad.

The timing of the theme announcement, which took place in the evening, was a break in tradition from past assemblies and a reflection of Klinginsmith's willingness to embrace change. He encouraged district governors-elect to reexamine traditional procedures that were no longer best practices and to begin new traditions where appropriate.

He also paid homage to Rotarians of the past who helped raise Rotary to a place of prominence on the world stage.

He urged district governors-elect to meet the past RI presidents and other former officers in attendance to deepen their connection to Rotary's past.

In my search for the right words, I review the four avenues of service and noted that Club service and vocational Service both help us to enjoy life and to be good citizens.

Community service and vocational service combine to make our local communities better places for us to live and works.

International service permits us to partner with clubs in other countries and on different continents to make the world a better place to live, with an improved opportunity for world understanding, goodwill and peace.

Our Club is facing a brighter year ahead with the global financial crises nearly over.

We should work as one in searching for new idea for fundraising to help others in need.

People constantly ask me why I joined rotary.

My answer was

Rotarians plant a tree and never eat from it or Sit under it to protect them from the heat,

a Rotarian that donates money to operate on kids we  never know or never see,

a Rotarian that dug a bore but never drank from it and never used it,

helping with a passion no matter what your beliefs or political view.

Helping for better communities and all the above is voluntary and that is why I joined Rotary, so here is what I say to the club in lets increase membership to give those non-Rotarians a chance to feel the honour of helping communities at large.

As our districts have now merged as one, we now have more opportunity to

Have club joint meetings, joint venture and more fellowship, which will create a better outcome for our communities.

Tradiontionally  our partners have had there own committee this year we are looking at some joint fundraising ventures.

Our partners have always been the driving force behind us they have supported us, helped us and been that pillar that we can lean on to get us through, for that I say thank you.

Amal has planned a exciting year ahead and look forward to hearing the good new in months to come

If all of us in this room are willing to be the leaders we have the ability to be

is there any doubt the best days of Rotary are still ahead?

Rotary has 1.2 million members that is relatively small in numbers, when we consider the global population of six billion. But bear in mind the priceless advice of noted Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Yes, we have changed the world, and will continue to change it, in a positive way! Can we do it even better in these financially troubled times? Yes, we can do it! Yes, we will do it — together!

The formula is simple. For us to succeed this year, all we need to do is to focus our best efforts on encouraging Rotarians and others to do what Rotarians are passionate about, and what Rotarians are the best in the world at doing, which is Building Communities — Bridging Continents!
